(Jennerstown, PA) Saturday, July 8, the touring Super Cup Stock Car Series makes a visit to Jennerstown Speedway Complex, as the second stop on their 2017 schedule. The event will be recorded for broadcast, on a later date, via the national cable television network MAV-TV. The traveling competitors will battle in two separate 50-lap feature races, earning points toward the title of Super Cup Champion, in this tenth anniversary season of the series’ existence. Adding the Super Cup Stock Cars to the five divisions of racing that Jennerstown boasts each Saturday, makes this week’s event a six division motorsports extravaganza, for the regular admission price, of just $10.00 (adult general admission).
The Super Cup Stock Car Series, which invaded Jennerstown twice in 2016, matches experienced drivers from eight states in competition. Of the nine Pennsylvania drivers on the tour, a few are very familiar to Jennerstown Speedway fans. John Komarinski, Jeff Zillweger, and Series rookie Jerod Brougher have all raced on a weekly basis in the region, before moving on to touring competition in Super Cup Cars. But, one Pennsylvania driver made big news at his “home track” last year. Bill Ashton, of Hopwood, PA, earned a career-first win with the Series, and had an emotional victory lane interview for the national TV audience. Fans are still talking about Ashton’s upset victory, and the thrill of a “local boy” finding his greatest success at a track so close to his home… and his heart. Other Super Cup winners at Jennerstown in 2016 were Micheal Mohelski (Maryland) and Codie Rohrbaugh (West Virginia).
After suffering a rain out in Tennessee, the Super Cup Stock Car Series’ ten year anniversary celebration rolls into Jennerstown having completed only one event in 2017. In early June, the tour visited central Ohio for a “Twin 50’s” program, and Indiana residents won both segments of the racing. Trent Gossar and Stephen Cox were the winners – both earning their first career wins on the tour in the same night.
Joining the Super Cup Stock Car Series’ pair of 50-lap races on July 8, will be feature races for the Stoystown Auto Wreckers Modifieds, J&J Truck Equipment Street Stocks, Famers Union Co-Op Chargers, and Somerset Trust Company Fast ‘n Furious 4-Cylinders. The Martella’s Pharmacies Late Models will compete in preliminary heat races and a 30-lap feature race. Time trials for the Super Cup Series take place at 4:00pm, with racing action to kick-off to 6:00pm.
