West Virginia native Jason Kitzmiller Sweeps Super Cup Stock Car Series Races at Jennerstown Speedway

JENNERSTOWN, July 16 – The Super Cup Stock Car Series visited Jennerstown Speedway on Saturday night for two 50 lap feature events. Jason Kitzmiller of Maysville, WV swept the night, winning both a race to start the evening, and a night cap under the lights.

Kitzmiller set the Super Cup Stock Series track record at Jennerstown during single car qualifying before the races. Brent Nelson, who has nine wins at Jennerstown, led the first 36 laps for the first feature before Kitzmiller tracked him down for the lead. Ben Ebeling led the first 19 laps of the second feature before Ktizmiller could make the pass around him and sail off for another victory.

The Super Cup Stock Car Series is scheduled to return to Jennerstown Speedway on September 10.

Barry Awtey picked up another win in the Martella’s Pharmacies Late Models. The veteran driver is having a tremendous season. Awtey has now won four of the last five races.

Awtey started in tenth, and raced his way up to third when the caution flag flew for a spin by Gary Wiltrout with 20 laps to go. Mike Hemminger would spin twice to bring out a few more caution flags before Awtey could track down Shipp for the lead with 13 laps to go.

The win is Awtey’s sixth of the year, more than half of the Martella’s Pharmacies Late Model features this season at Jennerstown. The defending champion is leading the point standings once again more than halfway through the season.

In the Ron’s Collision Center Street Stocks, a late caution helped Angie Kimberly to her second win of the year. Casey Fleegle had a one-second lead when a caution came out on the final lap. The restart set up a green-white-checkered finish. Kimberly restarted to the outside of Fleegle. The two battled side-by-side until Kimberly got the best of Fleegle and got around him on the final lap for the lead and the win.

A late race caution in the Somerset Trust Fast N’ Furious 4’s also changed the outcome of the race. The division ran the Jeff Vasos Tribute Race in honor of the former track champion who tragically passed away in January. The pre-race ceremonies included pace laps with Vasos’s car and a presentation to the family. The Vasos family and Stoystown Auto Wreckers donated extra money to the purse for the entire field.

Jeff’s cousin and teammate, Caleb Vasos, was leading the race with three laps to go when the caution flew for Lance Shawley’s second spin of the night. Robert Pluta started on the outside of Caleb Vasos when the race went back to green. The two battled door-to-door for two laps when they two touched in Turn 2 and then again entering Turn 3 sending both cars into the wall and ending their nights.

On the restart, points leader Johnathan Haburscak grabbed with lead and drove off for his third win of the season.

Steve Singo won his fourth race of the season in the Farmers Union Co-op Chargers. Singo started on the pole, and led the entire race. In the closing laps, Nate Valente was closing the gap. Valente got to Singo’s bumper coming to the checkered flag, but overdrove the corner allowing Singo to pick up the win, and Nick Niemeic to take second place away. Valente finished third.

In the One Stop Auto Sales Pro Stocks, Adam Kostelnik picked up his fourth win of the season. The caution flew several times in the race, including twice before the field completed the first lap. Kyle Burkholder started on the pole and led more than half the race, but Kostelnik worked his way through traffic to battle him for the lead and take the checkered flag.

Jennerstown Speedway will take a break from racing this coming weekend as the track welcomes the All-Star Monster Trucks to the track. The monster truck and motorcross show will take place both on Friday night and Saturday night. An on-track party with the trucks starts at 4:30 p.m. and the big show will get underway at 7 p.m. Kids 12 and under get in for just $10. Visit jennerstown.org for tickets.
